Canvas, Compose, and Scenes
Choose Canvas to turn media into living visuals, Compose to write music, or Scenes to edit a music video. Compose now includes eight tracks, a piano roll, sample import, repeatable song sections, automation, and consistent music exports. Scenes combines local audio, visual clips, titles, artwork, and video export.
Everything is processed in your browser. For exact features, limits, and fixes, read the September 12 update.
Interpret a source or build a complete beat sketch, shape its visual response, and carry the result into durable local files.
Sources
- Files: common browser-supported audio, video, and image formats; files remain local.
- Microphone: live audio with automatic calibration.
- Camera: live frame and optional microphone analysis.
- Tab or system audio: choose a browser tab or screen and enable shared audio when your browser offers it.
- Generative field: a built-in media-free starting point.
Files larger than 500 MB may reduce performance. Files above 1.5 GB are declined. Codec support comes from your browser and operating system.
Eidolon Compose
Choose Make music to open the eight-track music workspace. Patterns start at A–D and can be duplicated up to P. Each can use 16, 32, or 64 steps. Generate creates a seeded rhythm from the selected style, key, and density; Mutate, Fill, Simplify, and Intensify reshape the selected pattern while respecting locked tracks and steps. Click a step to toggle it, then use Step Detail to set velocity, chance, ratchets, timing nudge, pitch, or a lock.
Arrange pattern blocks into a song of up to 32 scenes and choose whether Play follows the current pattern or the arrangement. Shift-click an arrangement block to remove it. Each voice has level, pan, tone, decay, mute, solo, and lock controls. Drive and Space shape the master output.
Studio controls
Choose among six worlds, then open Studio Settings for palette presets, motion, geometry density, trails, frequency focus, render quality, reduced motion, high contrast, and sensory-safe output. Journey mode automatically rotates worlds or saved Visions. Performance mode hides the interface.
Keyboard and MIDI
- Space pause or resume the active instrument.
- 1–6 select visual worlds.
- R reimagine.
- P enter or exit Performance mode.
- Ctrl/Cmd+Z undo and Ctrl/Cmd+Y redo.
When Web MIDI is enabled, notes 36–41 select worlds, modulation controls sensitivity, expression controls motion, and controller 2 changes geometry density.
Saving and exports
Save locally stores the editable project in IndexedDB on this device. Compose also keeps a browser-local recovery snapshot as you work. Export project creates a portable schema-3 .eidolonbeat file; older schema-1 and schema-2 projects are upgraded when opened. Export mix WAV renders the selected pattern or arrangement, Export stems ZIP renders eight separate WAV files, and MIDI creates a Type 1 file with conductor and per-voice tracks.
Stills export as PNG. Recording uses MP4 when the browser supports an appropriate recorder and WebM otherwise. Choose landscape, square, or portrait video output; 720p or 1080p; and 30 or 60 FPS.
Compatibility
Current Chrome and Edge desktop versions provide the broadest file, live-capture, Web MIDI, recording, and Compose support. Firefox and Safari can run the core instrument and Compose, but capture sources and codecs vary. Use Browser Preflight for the exact current device.
Known limitations
- Protected streaming services may prevent direct audio analysis or recording.
- System audio is not exposed by every browser or operating system.
- MP4 recording is used only when the browser reports support.
- Long arrangements and stem exports can take time and use substantial memory, especially on mobile devices.
- Large files and 1080p/60 FPS recording may trigger adaptive low-power mode.
- Local projects and recovery data can be removed when site data is cleared; export important work.
- Recipe links reproduce visual settings but intentionally exclude source media.
